Vegetarian Tempe Mendoan

Tempeh (/ˈtɛmpeɪ/; Javanese: témpé, Javanese pronunciation: [tempe]) is a traditional soy product originating from Indonesia. It is made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form.

Most Indonesian eat tempe and depends on that for the source of protein because the price is cheaper than meat.

Here is famous Indonesian famous ” Tempe Mendoan ” recipe:

Tempe Mendoan is thinly sliced and wide in size tempeh coated in spiced batter, deep fried and served with spicy sambal kecap (chili soy sauce dip )or fresh green chili. A snack recipe that is made to please. Vegan friendly .

Ingredients:

1package Tempe ( 250-300 gr )

GROUND SPICES:

2 cloves garlic

1 tablespoon coriander seeds

2 teaspoons salt

100ml water

1 egg

2 stalks green onion/scallion, sliced

200grams all purpose flour

200ml cooking oil for frying

Instructions:

1 Slice the tempe as thin as possible.

2 Grind coriander seeds, salt and garlic, place it in a big bowl, add 100ml water. Combine well. Marinade the sliced tempeh with the liquid mixture.

3 Remove marinated tempe in a plate.

4 Combine the rest of the marinate liquid withe egg, sliced scallions, flour and water.

5 Dip each piece of tempeh into the liquid dough.

6 Heat oil in a frying pan, fry the tempe 1-2 minutes each side, wait until it becomes golden brown . Take out the Tempe.

7 Serve with soy sauce chili dip.
